About Reiki

The Usui System of Reiki is a complementary, safe, energy healing practice/therapy, that promotes balance in mind, body, and spirit. It is painless, non-manipulative, non-invasive and does not interfere with any form of medical treatment.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines Reiki as "A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being".

Reiki (pronounced RAY KEY) translates into Western dialect as Universal Life Force Energy or Spiritual Energy (although it is not a religious practice).

Its principal effects are the relief of stress and pain through the stimulation of a person’s own healing responses. It is a resource the body may use for healing – physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally and/or energetically and may be applied to people, animals, plants and even problematic situations.

In and of itself, Reiki is not a ‘cure’ but rather a facilitator of enhanced wellbeing. It is based on an Eastern belief that energy, referred to as ‘chi’ or ‘ki’ flows through all things, living and inanimate, and supports the body’s natural healing abilities.
